AUSTIN, TEXAS (Friday, August 30, 2024) – MDK Motorsports racer Trenton Estep is set to chase his second major victory at Circuit of the Americas this weekend when he climbs aboard MDK’s No.16 Ford Mustang Dark Horse R racer.
The 24-year-old San Antonio-born racer triumphed for MDK Motorsports earlier this year when he claimed victory with Paul Bocuse aboard a Porsche 911 GT3 R at Circuit of the Americas in the inaugural round of the Porsche Endurance Challenge.
This morning, Estep will climb aboard the Mustang for the first time to make his debut in the Mustang Challenge series. This weekend will be the penultimate round of the new championship which will conclude next month at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Estep will line up in the Dark Horse class alongside MDK teammate Tom Tait who will race in the Dark Horse Legends category.
It will be a baptism of fire for Estep. The young Texan racer has never driven the 500-horsepower Mustang.
“I’m very excited to be drafted at the last minute to drive the MDK Ford Mustang Dark Horse R,” Estep said.
“I think it will be a good weekend here in Texas. This is my home race, so it is always good to have friends and family here to support me.
“But I know it will be a completely new learning experience for me. I’ve never raced with a manual gearbox before, so this will be interesting. It’ll be a steep learning curve to be tackled in about an hour of practice, but the guys and girls at MDK Motorsports have given me a great platform to get started with.
“I can’t thank Mark and Megan Kvamme enough for the opportunity. I think it’s going to be a great weekend.”
Estep and his teammate Tom Tait will enjoy a pair of 30-minute practice sessions today before hitting the track for qualifying on Saturday morning at 9:00 am.
The first 45-minute race will take place at 4:40 pm on Saturday with the second event scheduled for Sunday at 8:40 am.
The Ford Mustang Challenge series races at Circuit of the Americas as one of the main support categories for the US round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
